Open Memory Box is a research project that examines the relations between moving pictures, memory, and commemoration. The project seeks to present images and memories of daily life in the German Democratic Republic in an open-access, interactive archive. Open Memory Box builds on private movies produced in the GDR from the 1950s up until the end of the regime in 1989.
